A 5-door estate (wagon) was previewed at the Geneva auto show a month later.

This Focus Generation will be the first Ford vehicle designed under CEO Alan Mulally and his "One Ford" plan, which aims to leverage Ford's global resources to create more competitive vehicles that can be sold globally in every segment with changes minimal.

The "One Ford" plan will reunite the North American and global Focus lines. Therefore, previous North American versions were discontinued, and new models were launched simultaneously in North America and Europe on May 2, 2011, both beginning production near the end of 2010. Production in Asia, Africa, and South America followed later.

Ford debuted the all-electric Ford Focus Electric at the Consumer Electronics Show in 2011 to compete with Nissan Leaf and Chevrolet Volt and announced the ST hot hatch model at the Paris Motor Show in September 2010.

Ford Focus is the best-selling car in the world for 2012.

Design

The design was built in Ford Kinetic Design. The lights on the front have different shapes. The trapezoidal grille features a triangle. At the rear, the hatchback tail light is positioned lower, similar to the Ford Fiesta. The interior has been changed from the second generation in NA and International versions. Ford wants to make the Focus so much more classy that it offers two types of center consoles: this base is associated with smaller engines and premiums available for more powerful engines.

This Focus Generation combines redesigned cabins, altered materials, and new "infotainment" systems. Following industry trends toward decontenting, and in line with the image of the "economy car" sedan versus the "premium" hatchback, the hinge luggage of energy-efficient sedan hinges that was previously replaced with a cheaper and annoying swan neck hinge. The Focus also has a patented Ford fuel tank, which does not require a lid to prevent siphon.

Transmission reliability issues

Along with the Ford Fiesta, the Focus equipped with the Ford DPS6 PowerShift transmission has received much criticism due to shivering transmission, including some lemon law claims. The problem is due to the dry type grips associated with the gasoline model. Ford's current response is to replace the assembly of the coupling package (with the updated section) when the vibration exceeds 250 rpm (after customer complaints). This proves to be a short-term drug because it is not unusual for the clutch package to be replaced every 6,000 miles (9,700 km).

There are at least 6 revisions of coupling package and transmission control module from the beginning. The newer coupling and transmission packages are more resistant to usage and fluid contamination, since the source of many vibration issues involves a seal that is not installed properly that leaks the transmission fluid to dry grips. Ford also claims there is "Changes in clutch material for better performance across the entire temperature range (new for 2016)." Some consumer complaints are due to normal transmission operation characteristics, because DPS6 does not contain a torque converter fluid clutch and does not behave similar to traditional torque converter transmissions, instead sharing some of the characteristics found in traditional manual transmissions.

North American Market

Like most other non-European markets, only 4-door sedans and 5-door hatchbacks are offered in the United States and Canada. EPA rated fuel economy in 28 cities/38 hwy MPG for automatic 6-speed, and 26 city/36 hwy MPG for 5-speed manual. The SFE package, which can only be added to the SE trim sedan with semi-automatic semi-automatic semi-automatic transmission, improves road fuel economy up to 40 MPG. The new Focus platform is based on 25% stronger than previous North American versions.

Machine series in North America

Focus was launched with only one engine option, 2.0-liter Duratec 20 direct injected, Ti-VCT 4-cylinder, producing 160 hp (119 kW). In mid-2012, Flex Fuel capability is added, except for states in the United States that comply with partial zero-emission vehicle regulations. This machine is a derivative of 2.0 liter port-injected 2.0-liter engine in the previous generation Focus. At the end of 2012, this range joins the Focus ST, with a 2.0-liter turbocharged that produces 252 hp (188 kW) (only available with manual transmission).

For refresh 2015, the 1.0-liter EcoBoost three-cylinder starts offering in North America as an extra-cost option for SE trim levels.

The 2016 model adds a 2.3-liter EcoBoost to the new RS trim level

Specifications

Running changes

The color choices were limited during the summer of 2011, due to supply problems caused by the 2011 Japan earthquake/tsunami. When dark and dark blue returned they were replaced by different nuances, although Kona Blue's removal for Sonic Blue was planned.

In January 2012, Ford announced that the previously only automated Titanium model will be offered with a manual transmission. In March 2012, Ford revised its ordering guide for the Titanium model to also have the option to remove MyFord Touch, replacing it with a non-touch MyFord version. Though MyFord Touch is a $ 995 option on the SEL and PowerShift automated models $ 1095 option on S and SE, no discounts are applied either to manual or non-Touch Titanium models.

The 2013 model changes for non-ST are; The SE model gets the standard SYNC and alloy wheels, the SEL trim no longer supports the "SE packaged package" which covers most of the SEL features but with a standard limited trim option on blacks, while the Titanium model also takes up standard leather seats. All now standard with a 5-speed manual that leaves the SFE package as Automatic Focus-only last left (apart from direct mains power), and reset color options.

Reliability issues

Along with Ford Fiesta, the Focus equipped with Ford PowerShift transmission has received much criticism due to shivering transmission, including some lemon law claims. The problem is because of the dry type coupling associated with the gasoline model. Ford's current response is to replace clutch coupling units (with equal parts) when vibrations exceed 250 rpm (after customer complaints).

Ford claims that the transmission, semi-automatic transmission, is designed to improve fuel economy and has issued several software upgrades for transmission. To date, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has not required Ford to issue a recall, nor did Ford do it voluntarily. Focus models equipped with conventional manual transmissions have not been affected by reliability issues.

The concept of electric cars was launched at the 2009 Frankfurt Automotive Exhibition as a Ford Focus BEV. The focus of BEV is based on the second generation Focus Europe.

For Focus Electric, Ford employs a complete electric propulsion engine developed and supplied by Magna Steyr, and uses a 23 kWh, liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery unit, has a 100 m (160 km) range with payload, and a top speed of 84 mph km/h).

Focus ST

Early Summer 2012 (UK)/late 2012 in the US, Ford offers a new performance-oriented Focus ST, as it was first revealed at the 2010 Paris Motor Show and later at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2011 when more details were announced, including availability of real versions ( wagon) for the European market, and possibly a sports sedan version for the North American market.

ST has a more aggressive new exterior design, including a redesigned front bumper with a larger air intake and grille, larger rear wing, wider sidewall, exhaust out the center, and alloy wheels. Inside, the car receives a trio of additional gauges mounted on the dashboard, carbon fiber imitation trim, and sports chairs with colored inserts and stitches. The car will be offered three trim options: ST1, ST2 and ST3; the same three options are available with ST MkII.

The difference between the US and European models besides the lack of cart models outside Europe and the outer reflector required by Germany is limited to painting and pruning: Euro ST1 gets all Recaro cloth seats while ST1 AS-spec uses the same seat as the 2012 SE Sport Package; Red Recaro seat accents are not available on American ST2; Euro ST3s has a Recaro back seat configuration; Rear headrest differs in every market; Red is the only exterior color included in the base price in Europe while yellow is the only extra-cost color in the US; The optional MyFord Touch system fitted to the ST2/ST3 model in the US is not offered in Europe; The North American ST uses a full-size reserve tire while Euro ST has a mini-backup or fix-a-flat setting, depending on what audio system is installed; Euro ST offers more options (some are grouped in option packages) compared to North American models including: red brake calipers (standard at all ST trim levels in the US), pop-out door guards, heated windshield, lane departure system, and active speed limiters; The lamp washer fitted to Euro ST3; Only ST3 models in the United States showcase the design of handbrake, armrests, and cup holder from Focus Titanium, while all Euro and Canadian Focus STs have that arrangement; Euro Focus ST has an adjustable front passenger seat.

ST will use 252 hp (188 kW) & amp; 366Ã, N? M (270Ã, lb? Ft) engine version of the EcoBoost 2.0L 4-cylinder engine, an increase of 25 hp (just due to better exploitation of engine potential) above the previous Focus ST using 2.5L larger 5 -cylinder engine higher potential). It is estimated that ST will reach 100 kilometers per hour (62 mph) in 6.1 seconds, while its top speed will be 248 kilometers per hour (154 mph). Compared to the previous ST, this new model has a time of 0 to 100 km/h and has a top speed of 2 mph higher. Another significant increase is weight; the new car is 30 kilograms (66 Â £) lighter than its predecessor 5-cylinder powered.

ST is featured in the 2012 movie The Sweeney , a remake of the 1970s TV series of the same name. Ford gave six ST-badged Focuses to the production team.

Facelift (2015-present)

For the 2015 model year, the ST continues to use 252 HP (184Ã, kW) 2.0L EcoBoost with 6-speed manual gearboxes on ST1, ST2 and ST3 trims for European and US markets, and single ST trims in the Australian market. Updates made for the front and rear fascia coincide with changes that are applied in the standard Focus, including lights, grille, and rear diffuser. The availability of 5-door hatchback and real (wagon) body style remains unchanged. For the European market, the Duratorq Diesel 2.0L TDCi engine is available for ST with 6-speed Powershift Automated-Manual gearbox to compete with the likes of Volkswagen Golf GTD and SEAT LeÃÆ'³n FR. Output rated 2.0L Duratorq is 182 HP (136 kW), and 300 lb-ft (400 N-m) of torque at ST. Prices and badging are the same for gasoline and diesel models.
