Budgeted Costs for Work Performed (BCWP) also called Values ââRetrieved (EV), are the budgeted work costs that have actually been performed in performing scheduled tasks for a certain period of time time. BCWP is the sum of the budget for completed work packages and parts of open work packages completed, plus the portion of the budget applicable to the level of effort and effort being shared. (Items identified in the job description structure plus overhead costs, plus the associated costs in proportion to planning and performance.)
BCWP is a term in the Earned value management approach for Project management.
BCWP is different from the Scheduled Budget for Scheduled Work (BCWS) also called Planned Value (PV) . BCWS is the number of budget items for all the work packages, plan plans, and overheads scheduled for that period, and not the actual work costs.
BCWP is also contrasted with Real Cost of Work Performed (ACWP) which measures the actual amount spent than the budgeted estimate.

Example
To illustrate the difference between the three terms, assume that the schedule contains the "Hardware test" tasks expected to run from January 1 to January 10 and for a cost of $ 1000, and that this is a simple effort at no additional cost or allocated cost. But on January 5, amid the time allowed, the work was 30% complete and had spent $ 250.
-
- BCWP is $ 1000 (budgeted cost) times 30% (work done), or $ 300
- BCWS is $ 1000 (budgeted fee) times 50% (scheduled amount), or $ 500
- ACWP is $ 250
Comparison in Earned value management will see this as behind schedule and cost less overall than expected.
